Barclays Wealth appoints Thomas Roiz MD and Market Head for Latin America within International Private Bank, Europe, Middle East and Africa (IPB EMEA)

Barclays Wealth has announced the appointment of Thomas Roiz as Managing Director and Market Head for Latin America within International Private Bank, Europe, Middle East and Africa (IPB EMEA). Based in Geneva, he will join the firm in July and will report to Patrick Ramsey, Market Manager Latin America, IPB EMEA and General Manager of Barclays Bank (Suisse) SA.

Mr Roiz will be charged with building out the Latin America strategy and coverage model for IPB EMEA, focusing on each of the Latin America regions (North, Brazil and South). This will include client acquisition, hiring bankers to service the Latin American market and working across all parts of Barclays Wealth to further develop a full product offering tailored to the high and ultra high net worth Latin American client base.

Prior to joining Barclays Wealth, Mr Roiz spent the last two years as Head of Latin America at the Royal Bank of Canada (Suisse) SA, and was the Managing Director in charge of Brazil at Citi Private Bank (Suisse) SA from 2002 to 2009. He has also worked at JP Morgan Private Bank and Union Bancaire Privée during his career.

Huntington hires Marita Grobbel as Senior Trust Officer

Huntington has hired Marita Grobbel as Senior Trust Officer in Southeastern Michigan. Grobbel has more than 25 years of experience in wealth management, commercial banking and personal banking.

Grobbel comes to Huntington from Northern Trust Bank where she was president and managing director of the Grosse Pointe office. She consulted with clients and their advisors in the professional community on a variety of personal financing strategies, including trust and investment servicing and coordination of private and commercial banking services.

“Marita’s diverse and in-depth knowledge in commercial and personal banking will provide significant additional leadership in Michigan,” said Michael Fezzey, regional president for east Michigan. “She will strengthen our banking presence and provide the kind of effective financial guidance our customers have come to expect from Huntington.”

Grobbel will assist in managing the East Michigan trust and asset management team and help grow the Wealth Advisors Group portfolio.

Huntington’s Wealth Advisors Group assists business owners and other professionals in creating, preserving and successfully transferring their wealth.

Grobbel earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Grand Valley State University, her law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law and received her Certified Financial Planning (CFP) certificate from the College of Financial Planning. Professionally, she is a member of the American Bar Association, the Financial Planning Association, the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Metro Detroit, and holds Series 7 and 63 securities licenses.

As an active community member, Grobbel is a member of the Board of Trustees of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit and the YMCA Foundation Board Chair. She also is a board member for St. John Providence Continuum of Care and is a member of the Strategic Planning Committee for the St. John Providence Health System Board. She is vice chair for the Grosse Pointe Farms Foundation and is on the finance committee of the Grosse Pointe Academy and the strategic planning committee of the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce.

Northern Trust appoints John F. Hoffman as President of its New York Personal Financial Services business

Hoffman to President of its New York Personal Financial Services business. He will manage all aspects of Northern Trust’s New York Personal Financial Services business, including client service and new client development. Hoffman joined Northern Trust in 2003 when the firm opened its New York office. Prior to joining Northern Trust, he worked at U.S. Trust for eight years where he served as a senior vice president in its high-net-worth planning group. Hoffman holds an MBA and a BBA from Hofstra University. He received his CIMA designation from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and his CPWA designation from the University of Chicago.
